Dr. Matchett has been interested in medicine since the early age of 9 when she first dissected a sheep’s heart and eye. From this experience, there was she knew a career as a physician was her future. She went on to graduate from Griffin High School in Griffin, Georgia before being accepted to Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. At Spelman, she worked closely with the Admissions Department advising interested students, while also mentoring and underclassmen interested in health science careers.

After graduating from Spelman, Dr. Matchett attended the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine where she completed research with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Division of Adolescent Medicine. She also served on the admission committee throughout her time there. While in Philadelphia, she developed an interest in Women’s Health and furthered her training by completing a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She attended the Washington Hospital Center / Medstar Residency Program in Washington, D.C. where she also helped with the matching process for incoming applicants.

Upon completing residency, Dr. Matchett opened her own solo OB/GYN practice in Martinsville, VA, where she learned about healthcare administration and served as a clinical clerkship mentor for professional healthcare students. She eventually relocated to the Atlanta Metro area where she served as the Clinical Director for an Ambulatory Surgery Center. At the center, she worked closely with the Clinical Internship program, the Transgendered Health program, as well as helped to advise employees who were interested in pursuing health professional careers. She now works with the Medical Department at the Military Entrance Processing Center.
