Kurt Schultz

Kurt Schultz was born and raised in Central Massachusetts. He graduated from the honors college at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. At UMass, Kurt co-founded the tutoring network UCAN, which matches undergraduate students with tutoring positions in the local primary and secondary schools. To date, UCAN has placed over 200 tutors throughout the Pioneer Valley public school systems. For his work with UCAN, Kurt was named one of Massachusetts "29 Who Shine" by Governor Deval Patrick.

Kurt has continued to make tutoring an important part of his life in medical school. After earning a 255 on Step 1 and a 260 on Step 2CK, Kurt mentored and tutored many of his peers for these board exams. Kurt received High Honors in his Surgery, Medicine, Ob/Gyn, Family, Neurology, and Psychiatry clerkship rotations and has tutored students on the shelf exams as well.

Currently, Kurt is taking a year between his third and fourth years to conduct research in Dr. Jennifer Tseng's Surgical Outcomes Analysis & Research (SOAR) Lab at Boston Medical Center. He plans to pursue a career as a surgeon-scientist with a research focus on the perioperative and long-term outcomes of complex cancer surgeries.

Kurt is excited to help students at MedSchoolCoach achieve their personal study goals. He believes that, with hard work and a personalized plan, any student can succeed on these high-stakes medical school exams.

Before medical school, Kurt traveled to Myanmar for a meditation retreat where he spent 2 months meditating in silence.
