Mackenzie was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale University, graduating with distinction in medical anthropology. She was also a Global Health Fellow at Yale and conducted field work in Kenya, Guatemala, Panama, and China. At Yale, Mackenzie worked as a peer tutor for many science and writing courses. She also spent four years volunteering as a college admissions coach through a non-profit organization, and she taught health education in New Haven high schools through Community Health Educators.
Mackenzie was accepted to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the Patient Oriented Research Training and Leadership Program, a dual degree MD and Master’s of Science in Clinical Research. During her third year of medical school, Mackenzie excelled, honoring all of her clinical rotations and scoring above the 90th percentile on all of her shelf exams. She scored a 270 on STEP 2 CK. Mackenzie is currently on a scholarly year between her third and fourth years of medical school, completing her Master’s degree while working on a thesis project in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Mackenzie has continued to tutor and advise students throughout medical school, serving as a peer tutor, a notetaker for the Disability office, and a Senior Student Advisor. She has also been a teaching assistant for numerous medical school courses. She is passionate about teaching and finding ways to help her students based on their strengths, weaknesses, and individual learning styles. She has extensive experience and success tutoring students who have failed a USMLE examination and require remediation.
During medical school, Mackenzie has been actively involved in her school’s free clinic, which serves uninsured members of the community. She has also been involved with global health research in Kenya and Liberia. Outside of school, Mackenzie enjoys hiking and camping, singing, and vegetarian cooking.
