Makayla earned her bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in Literature from North Carolina State University. While working on her BA, Makayla tutored local middle and high school students to help them identify and develop their writing voices.
After graduation, she began work as a College Advisor in a rural high school where she advised students on all aspects of the undergraduate admissions process.
In between planning FAFSA workshops and meeting with university admissions teams, she found herself once again guiding students to embrace the writing process for what it is (a process!) and building their confidence in their writing. She is excited to begin graduate school and continue the work of supporting students one draft at a time!

Makayla can identify over 3 dozen semiprecious gemstones thanks to the summer she worked at the gemstone mining exhibit in her local natural history museum.
