Matthew was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina to a family of six siblings. Growing up, he enjoyed participating in boy scouts and many sports from gymnastics, cheerleading, track, soccer, swimming and basketball. After high school, he studied biology at University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he was a Division 1 track and field athlete, specializing in the 200-400m open events. During his time in Greensboro, he did two years of research in an organic chemistry synthesis lab working on reaction design and helping to discover and define a novel decarboxylation method.
After scribing for emergency departments and an ENT clinic, Matthew matriculated to University of North Carolina School of Medicine’s MD program. He is focusing on a medical education concentration and works as a tutor and anki assistant for students at the school. After honoring in every clinical rotation and scoring a 268 on Step 2, he sought to expand his teaching experience with the MedSchoolCoach team.
In his spare time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife, newborn daughter, and two rabbits. He hopes to go into internal medicine and pursue a fellowship in allergy / immunology with a focus on acquired and innate immune system disorders.
