Sam was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. After graduating high school, he completed a semester-long Outward Bound Leadership course before enrolling at the University of Colorado, Boulder. There, he double majored in integrative physiology and molecular, cellular, developmental biology. While at the University of Colorado, Sam participated in peer tutoring, specializing in chemistry, biology and physics. After graduating from CU, Sam worked as a clinical scribe in emergency departments and a neurosurgery clinic as he studied for the MCAT and prepared for medical school.
For medical school, Sam attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine where he has excelled and is expected to graduate as the salutatorian of his class. He has held leadership positions in several student led clubs and participated in research projects. He scored a 265 on Step 2, a 772 on Level 2, and was at or above the 90th percentile on each of his shelf exams. He also received honors on all of his core rotations.
Sam is very passionate about medical education and believes that each student can find an approach to the learning process that will allow them to achieve their academic goals. Sam applied for residency in urology and matched at Cook County Health system where he will start in July of 2024. In his free time, he likes to run, hike, rock climb, and spend time with his wife and their dog, Sully.
