Sandra C. Duvivier, PhD, is an educator and writing consultant with an extensive background in teaching collegiate writing-intensive courses ranging from introductory to advanced graduate. Her interest in consulting began as a graduate student, when, as part of a course requirement, she had to provide feedback on her cohorts’ essays. Noticing her knack for editing, she began to extend her services to family, friends, and others in her academic and social networks. Tutoring in ELA became a natural extension of her consulting, as parents began requesting her services after seeing her edited work.
As a proud educator, Sandra uses the classroom to carry out her mission to help empower students to explore new and uncharted territory. Working with students from various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and in areas ranging from the rural South to the urban North, has enabled her to enrich her teaching. She views it as a curricular component to her research, which has been awarded fellowships and appears in academic journals and anthologies. Currently, she teaches in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York.
In addition to teaching and consulting, Sandra also works in assessment for ELA. With each writing task she is assigned, she ensures that it not only has a solid grasp of writing mechanics but is also clear, succinct, structurally sound, and interesting. She is grateful for all of her professional experiences and very enthusiastic about working for MedSchoolCoach.
