    Education

    Undergraduate: University of Central Arkansas
    Graduate: Vanderbilt University
    Doctorate: Vanderbilt University

Beth Estes, Ph.D., obtained her B.A. in political science from the University of Central Arkansas prior to earning her Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. While a graduate student at Vandy, she served as the College of Arts and Science Graduate Writing Fellow at the Writing Studio and learned how to combine her passion for writing and supporting students. She became really interested in understanding why people think they way they do about politics, so which led to her studying political psychology. She worked on a (now published) paper about disgust sensitivity and political attitudes. It was really cool to look at "disgusting" images to design our experiments!

In her current role as an academic support coordinator, she works with students via one-on-one consultations as well as through other programming, such as writing workshops. Her biggest strength and joy as a writing consultant is helping students find their voice as they navigate the application process. She likes to use her extensive knowledge of personal statements to share her wisdom and help students get a clear sense of what these statements are supposed to look like. She also enjoys encouraging students when they get stuck and motivating them to keep trying. Her goal is to simplify the process as much as possible so that students have a clear path forward.

Outside of work, Beth is avid volunteer and currently serves as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth. She also enjoys traveling with her husband and playing with their extra lazy west highland white terrier, Ross.
