Blaine is a fiction writer from Lexington, Kentucky. He earned a BA in English from Western Kentucky University, an MA in English from Auburn University, and an MFA in fiction from the University of Oregon. Currently, he is a PhD candidate in literature and creative writing at the University of Houston, where he focuses primarily on rural American fiction of the 20th century. Blaine brings over seven years of experience teaching college-level writing, as well as pedagogical interests in both language and revision.

Blaine has worked in retail, agriculture, and the oil and gas industry. He once thought he would become a veterinarian.
