Ed Walsh MD
Associate Director of AdvisingDr. Walsh is an emergency medicine physician who graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He is interested in medical education and preparing students for the challenges of medical school and beyond. He also serves as a faculty member in the James Madison University Physician Assistant program.
Dr. Walsh graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in biology before pursuing his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. During his time in medical school, he distinguished himself both academically and through his service on the admissions committee, where he gained valuable insight into the selection process for future medical students. After completing his residency training in emergency medicine at the University of Virginia, Dr. Walsh transitioned to full-time practice in Northern Virginia, where he has continued to apply his clinical expertise.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Walsh is a dedicated educator. He currently serves as a faculty member at the James Madison University Physician Assistant program, where he lectures in emergency medicine, sharing his in-depth knowledge with aspiring healthcare professionals. His teaching extends to undergraduate education as well, having taught several biology courses at Germanna Community College, where he has inspired students to explore careers in medicine.
A lifelong learner himself, Dr. Walsh is deeply passionate about medical education. He is particularly focused on equipping students for the rigors of medical school and the demands of healthcare practice. His experience supporting non-traditional students further demonstrates his commitment to fostering diverse educational pathways and ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed. Whether through lecturing or mentoring, Dr. Walsh remains dedicated to shaping the next generation of medical professionals.

FUN FACT
Before his medical career, Dr. Walsh was a former professional baseball player and is a two-time Ironman finisher. He is currently training for Ironman Arizona.
