Modu Fofana-Kamara

Dr. Modu L.A. Fofana-Kamara is a cultural feminist rhetorician who earned her doctorate from Michigan State University (MSU), Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures Program. While at MSU Dr. Fofana-Kamara taught first-year writing, mentored and tutored at MSU writing center where she worked specifically with international and domestic students who needed help with their academic thesis and dissertation writing projects. Dr. Fofana-Kamara also worked with a number of undergraduate students who sort help and guidance on writing personal statements when applying to professional graduate programs, such as medical and law school programs. Prior to MSU, Dr. Fofana-Kamara attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where she studied Writing and Composition.

For her master thesis, Dr. Fofana-Kamara worked with a local faith-based prison reentry transitional program where she developed a writing skill course. She taught and mentored ex-offenders in the program, teaching them how to rediscover and reconstruct their character identity as good citizens. This allowed them to secure jobs in the local workforce and reintegrate in the local communities.

Currently, Dr. Fofana-Kamara, through her non-profit organization, #NorseChep Professional Training Academy, works with donors and investors to build and develop writing training programs in West Africa, (Freetown, Sierra Leone, & Banjul, The Gambia). This program works to serve young college professional students who need mentoring and leadership assistance in developing professional and technical communication strategies as they venture to create startup businesses in their local and regional communities.

In her not-so-busy schedule, she enjoys writing about cookery and cooking practices,  and also enjoys indoor and outdoor photography.
