Rachael Smith
Writing AdvisorRachael advised undergraduate sciences students, including pre-med, and taught English composition I and II at the University of New Orleans. She is passionate about higher learning and cannot wait to help students tell their stories.
Rachael Smith graduated from the the University of Austin with a B.A. in English Literature in 2010. She then spent two years working various odd jobs as a veterinary assistant, factory finish welder, cookie delivery driver, pet sitter, and line cook before deciding that graduate school seemed like a better option than dog bites and grease burns.
She attended the University of New Orleans where she received her MFA in Creative Writing in Fiction. She received the Joanna Leake Prize for Best Fiction Thesis and the Outstanding Teaching Award. She has since worked as an Academic Advisor for science and engineering students.
Rachael has written a short story collection, Stranded, that is out for press and a dystopian science fiction novel, Listening to Dark, that she hands out to unsuspecting victims when she isn't playing Dungeons and Dragons as a druid with a possum animal companion. She is married to a current computer nerd and former Marine.

Rachael has an English Mastiff named Gunnery Sgt. R. Lee Ermey. He is anticipated to weigh around 200 pounds when he is fully grown. His interests include slobbering and elk antlers.
