Tae-young Nam is a Korean American father of (arguably) the coolest two-year-old on the planet. He was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in biology. After graduation, he became a City Year Corps Member and worked as a middle school teacher’s assistant for Lafayette Elementary School on the west side of Chicago. He subsequently moved to Las Cruces, NM to be a garden teacher where he cooked, gardened, and taught health nutrition to elementary school students as a FoodCorps Service Member. He then enrolled in the master’s in public health program at the University of New Mexico to increase garden education in schools, and decided later to enter into medical school in order to bring the food system and healthcare together.

Tae-young failed his first year of medical school, only to successfully repeat the year after an incredible amount of reflection and reevaluation of his approach. He entered with a 198 NBME score and, through dedication, ended with a 246 on the Step 1. As an individual who struggled through medical school himself, Tae-young is excited to help those individuals who are destined to become excellent physicians not only pass, but excel on Step 1. He brings with him over 10 years of teaching experience and firmly believes that every medical student has the ability to succeed on the boards and on the wards with just a little re-orientation on test-taking or learning approach. Tae-young is hoping to be a family physician or med-peds physician serving New Mexico communities.
